Speed Pairs is a high-energy connection activity that pairs students randomly for brief but meaningful conversations. This strategy is perfect for using one question from the First Five or encouraging students to share answers to as many questions as they can from the day’s five-question set. With fast and fun pairing techniques, students can engage with multiple classmates in under 2-3 minutes, making this a great way to kickstart your class with energy and connection!

Step 1: Quick Pairing with a Twist
Use a fun, fast method to randomly pair students. Options include:

Step 2: Choose Your Question(s)
Have each pair select one question from the First Five set or choose to answer as many questions as possible from the day’s set of five. Remind them to keep their answers brief but meaningful.

Step 3: Rapid Share and Switch
Set a timer for 1 minute. Partner A shares their response while Partner B listens. After 30 seconds, they switch roles. If they finish quickly, encourage them to answer another question from the set.

Step 4: Rotate and Repeat (Optional)
If time allows, have students quickly find a new partner using the same random method, and repeat the process with a different question from the set.
